I am a student filmmaker and I bought this camera sonystyle.com. It's a great consumer camcorder. It does not offer true HD picture quality, but it does offer true high definition. If you have an HD camera that rivals film cameras are expected at 50 to 100,000 dollars to spend. The best thing about the camera, the resolution and true 16:9 aspect ratio. If you hate the 16:9 mode, press the other camcorders, this camcorder for you.
Some people are disappointed with the camcorder lacks a progressive scan mode, 720p. discussed as 720p true HD. The HDR-FX1 shoots 1080i and that is where HD resolution. Shot as 1080i progressive scan would be outside the bandwidth limit. So if you plan to transfer a movie to be given to software de-interlacing capabilities.About all the little mistakes will piss off professionals, but they must realize when true HD is only 1080i not 1080p. The lack of XLR inputs will also damage the camcorder, but there are ways that. A major concern is the amount of compression that occurs during the shooting of an HDV MiniDV tape.
Sony HDR-FX1 3-CCD HDV
From what I've experienced the compression is not an important factor to about still worry until I do more testing. About all this is a superior camcorder compared to regular DV camcorders. 24p is not the only thing the film look. Aspect and detail are very important. The resolution and detail is far superior to any other consumer camcorder. Sony HDR-FX1 3-CCD HDV As detail and resolution are top of your list, then this is the camcorder for you, once the editing software occurs.
